The soul is a blissful child playing in a field of dreams
They want it to be an adult, they want to play their schemes
They force it to be a grown- up, they beat it till will cry
Then they go and search for meaning in the rubble and pigsty
We also wish to play, stay a child at every age
If we let our soul grow old, we cannot turn back the page
John the Baptist sought the desert, he shunned power and money
He didn’t want a banquet, it sufficed locust and honey
He spoke with words of wisdom telling what had to be said
They thought he was insane, in the end they chopped his head
We also crave the desert and we fancy a simple fare
Of loneliness the burden we are afraid that we can’t bear
There came a pompous man who spoke of money and might
In people’s hearts he stoked fears, and confused wrong from right
The crowd arose in cheers, on his head put a gold crown
In his hand a lightning rod, to his will they all bowed down
We can see the emptiness, we know it’s all a lie
We can’t accept a life where no one can hear our cry
Jesus talked of a reunion, where they played a cheerful tune
He spoke of love and peace, for his dance they called at noon
He did not want to surrender, to the tune of their own song
They nailed him to the cross though they knew he did no wrong
We want to follow Jesus, we want to do what’s right
But the cross is frightening sight and we dance all day and night
The band it kept on playing, making loud deafening noise
The singer kept on shouting empty words with thundering voice
The crowd was stupefied, was numb in mind and soul
It cheered from time to time, acting only a scripted role
We would like to hear the silence, the quiet we want to feel
But to hear our heart a beating deep fear cannot conceal
We were born children of freedom, to out lifer we hold the key
Only we can make the choice if we want to die or be
