A heart on the run
Keeps a hand on a gun
Can't trust anyone
It's words to a song
That explains my wrongs
That hurt everyone
Oh I've tried to love
I gave it my all
It wasn't enough
'Cause they never saw
It was you all along
You're in every damn song
That I never had the heart to sing
You moved away and left with
The part of me I kept hidden
I lost my heart at only thirteen
Our hands pulled away
I died some that day
From the promise I made
I'm forty two wishing you knew
I kept it as much as I could
I've held on but you're really gone
I'm letting go as I know I should
I can no longer run
I'm putting down this gun
You're the bullet that killed everyone
To the ones I've hurt
Just cover me up
And forgive my love
That wasn't used for good
I'm sorry it wasn't you
I'm sorry that I pushed away
I'm sorry this story's true
And never told until today
So to the ones I've hurt
Just cover me up
And forgive my love
That wasn't meant for anyone

- Comment from author about the poem: A true story about a 13 year old boy falling in love with a girl that had to move away. He was standing at the door of her car holding her hand holding back tears when she says "why aren't you crying, do you love me?" He can only nod his head "He's just being strong baby" her mom said. He again just keep nodding his head, speechless from the heartache. Her mom begins to back the car out the drive "Promise me you'll hold on, promise you'll remember me.. promise " the girl says through the tears. "I promise " he choked out as their hands pulled apart from the car backing into the road. Tear drops finally broke through as he watched that car drive away.. He's 42 years old now and remember that day as yesterday. That's the day that would keep him from ever fully loving anyone else, he didn't know it then but it changed his life before it ever began. She was Jessica Pelonkey He was me.

Very touching and beautifully expressed, and what makes it more special is that it comes from the heart...it is not a lot of people who are willing to open up like that so congratulations to you that you did
Thank you Esteven, I wasn't sure how I felt when writing it. And was nervous about sharing it.
