Falling Between the Cracks

J.Edse

Take heart

you may not have a cakewalk

to the garden of paradise

but you have a choice.

life can be as painful

or wonderful as you will it to be

born of your own choosing

its a delicate little dance

well versed in heartbreak

but also rejuvenation.

some gracefully skipping steps

touching each mile stone along the way

while others fall between the cracks,

without a second thought

from those

who are winning.

they aren’t important though

don’t pay attention to the winners

the perfect, the straight laced,

the button up jobies with black pencil ties and white tucked in shirts

glasses so thick they’re willfully blind,

sitting at the bus station chained to their briefcases

ready to catch the next ride

to an almost certain demise.

the lost souls are undeniably more interesting

they’ve been through the hell fire

the down and out, the lost and forgotten

the damned

the on the mend,

seer sayers of our time

one hand

reaching up towards the sky

in a quiet constance

of last refrain,

a dutiful effort

in the presence

of one last

rainbow.
