No Room for the Costume
Halloween night is approaching.
Kids to their parents are coaxing.
But, what they choose, I don’t understand,
Is their costume based on the topic at hand?
Halloween is supposed to be all scary.
Goblins, werewolves, extremely hairy.
But, the kids at my door are cute, that’s true.
I don’t mind paying my dues.
I walked the neighborhood, as a child.
And, then with my kids, let them be wild.
But, I would like to see, more terrifying.
Spooky, dark and electrifying
Not something that looks like a little flower,
I want scary stuff – now that’s the power!
They need to remember, it’s not about the candy.
Sparkle and shine, and everything fancy.
The spirit of Halloween, yes is to have fun.
But, also to remember the spirit of those gone.

Very topical poem. I especially liked the phrase:
"But, I would like to see, more terrifying.
Spooky, dark and electrifying"
Absolutely!
Thanks! I am from a time when ghosts and witches were the norm. I get that warm and fuzzy stuff. But, I am wondering maybe their parents are afraid of those haunted houses that pop up? Thanks for the comment!
