I stood-up in silent protest
bare headed
letting my white headscarf billow in the breeze.
They took me down
and I said nothing.
They beat me
I said nothing.
They imprisoned me
and I never gave up.
I just stood up again
and set myself against religious and political intolerance;
against their black hearts and souls
their undemocratic empires and caliphates
in silence.
Their actions to subdue, to crush and to silence
their reactionary treatment of peaceful protest
spoke louder than my words ever could
and reverberated across the globe.
I stand silent still
as the Persian winds blow
scented and spiced
bringing change in their wake.
I stand in silent vigil
for our past, our present and our future
and for the “Girls of Revolution Street”.

- Comment from author about the poem: This poem was written at a time when the first protests by individuals started about wearing the hijab in Iran. It was the embryonic expression of something which has now become a movement and a revolt.

I appreciate your message. Thanks.
It is a moment of change and for a woman's freedom to choose....... I hope.
we live at a time when woman risk their lives attempting to Escape
one of the worlds most visited Tourist city's (Dubai)
and yet our press, play 'hot seat'
politics to drive up sales...
Thanks for sharing and helping us become a little less ignorant of the wider world
