Not absent - still here!
Keep Calm and Carry On Poeming. 😂
It has happened once more would you believe?
I’ve been deleted and blocked yet again.
Still I cannot work out what was the peeve
I would not, did not set out to cause pain.
I merely explained to Brother Jakob
That his riff on John Lennon’s Imagine
Managed to rip it’s meaning out and rob
It of its values which I felt were mine.
I would like to know just where I went wrong.
Here for your delectation and delight,
My response – do peruse, it won’t take long.
(And for the record, I’m not always right).
First Bro, I would like to happily thank you for introducing a really good Utube post of what was possibly my favourite anthem of the sixties and seventies (OK – released 1971, but the spirit of the sixties spilled over well into the seventies) I’m going to fave your post so I can easily access it again when I feel nostalgic….
It would come, I think, as not much of a surprise to know that I cannot appreciate your parody. The whole point, the whole central argument in Imagine is that religions and countries divide us, and on that I cannot disagree.
I would like to quickly point out that I have no antagonism towards the religious, provided they don’t interfere with my life. If they need a religion to get them through their life then – good luck.
However, in this instance I feel that your post is tantamount to an action on my part whereby I would take one of your sacred hymns and make a bawdy parody, then reference it back to the original text.
Stay safe and well.

Thanks for introducing me to Phil Collins, Rik. The the number of vocalists, musicians et al I know nothing or very little about are a legion.
Unfortunately I'm pretty sure that's not the way I was heading.....
You blocked me?! Oooh!
But seriously - it's people's choice. You could press the 'panic button 'too (the 'block' button).
Woooof, woooof. Shut up Fido……. Sorry Orchi didn’t mean to go behind your back, but Fido contacted me. His woooof has gone all peculiar due to the curvature of the Earth.
He’s worried about you – says you are going off the rails, deluded and repetitious. Appears you’ve lost some sheep from the top paddock (possibly a metaphor, probably Aust inf.)
Now I once worked with such people, and a cardinal rule was never to enter into their delusional space, but to present reality at every opportunity…… However, for you I’d just answer….do it your way….
I don't think I've become repetitious, I say, I don't think I.......! I seem to have lost a sandwich for a picnic though. I'm one short, as they say!
I'll give you this much orchi - you are a sport with a sense of humour......
we none of us know what it is exactly that serves as the motivational touchpaper within another individual .. we can of course guess, but if the truth were out .. there would be far fewer mysteries for us to ponder at the end of the day .. Neville
No mysteries there for me, Nev. I know what are touchpapers for me - refusal to engage in rational debate and censorship.
Not much effort need surely be put into pondering the actions of he who sparked all this.
What happened? That John Lennon song has always been controversial.
In what way? that Yoko Ono had a great input? I'm beginning to wonder if the reason people become poets is because they hate being specific....LOL
John Lennon, himself said in a Playboy Mag interview “The concept of positive prayer…If you can imagine a world at peace, with no denominations of religion – not without religion but without this my God-is-bigger-than-your-God thing – then it can be true.”
The Beatle continued, “The World Church called me once and asked, “Can we use the lyrics to ‘Imagine’ and just change it to ‘Imagine one religion’?” That showed [me] they didn’t understand it at all. It would defeat the whole purpose of the song, the whole idea.”
I was just wondering what sparked your comments. You seemed angry.
Angry? - you could see me as angry about deletions here as a symptom of the inability or unwillingness to debate issues everywhere. It is a worry if I haven't made that clear in my last several posts here.... But not only recently, also scattered through my back catalogue can be found the occasional post on the same theme. Angry? - severely irritated with what goes on at MPS sometimes, perhaps.....
Thanks for the heads up on John Lennon's attitude to the song. However there seems to be a slight difference of attitude between the first and second paragraphs...
I agree about the Lennon interview. That is probably why there is controversy. Thanks for your explanation. Your insight and clarity are much appreciated. Regarding your MPS comment, I had seen, some 5 years ago, situations that reflect what goes on, on this site, that would make one irritated. Thanks again DD.
I don't know what has led us to be so politically correct and loose our cool when someone strikes a nerve. I take this to be tantamount to a type of censorship which I despise. Why can we not simply accept that everyone has an opinion and we don't have to accept it.
Missed this one, initially Soren - checked Nov 2, wasn't notified.
Not quite sure of what you mean: I don't see any political correctness here. (BTW there is a debate to be had on what exactly is 'political correctness') I (hope gently) pointed out that Brother J's version of Imagine denied the validity of its message while utilising it's main body. Surely he has enough Hymns? Like many, I think he confuses Religion the institution, with belief. Lennon speaks of the institutions, not the beliefs, which he cannot touch.
And for me, as I've pointed out, even the religions are OK, I have no antagonism towards the religious, provided they don’t interfere with my life.
