The Secret Hip-Hop Meeting

Shaunmatthewcpoetry

Mainstream Hip-Hop I used to listen to a lot
I want some of these new rappers to stop
It all makes sense
Why there's no longer any substance
There was a secret meeting in the early 2000's
Between the record labels and prison system
Some have spoke up about this but nobody listen
Conscious rap no longer on the radio
Ever wonder where did it go?
The powers that be don't want your mind to grow
It's the same dumbed down scenario
Keep the masses thick and stupid
While making a few more quid
Look at what you did
Living in a real life Gangstas Paradise
R.I.P Coolio
It's nothing nice
They sell you on the guns, chains, drugs and planes
But the reality is more strange
Manipulated beef and rivals
Cleanse yourself out with sage
In other words don't follow these false idols
Use your own brain
Inner thoughts of self are vital
The biggest artists are controlled in the rap game
The underground and truth speakers where it's at
The rappers who don't compromise
And are not living so fat
I can't understand and relate to what these labels pushing mate
Mumbling autotune druggies
Look at the state

I can but agree, the mindless scrolling is but a much more blatant exemplification of this steady outpouring and it still goes on until after the saturation point, this new empire and its machinations.

Thanks man, truly sad times we in.

Never really understood rap, to be quite honest. Years ago, in what must have been the early days, I witnessed big black dudes with heavy duty gold chains on (did they never consider where that gold came from, who mined it and under what conditions – or was that the point?) throwing out homophobic and misogynistic messages, and never returned. Now if what you are saying, that it changed, but now has come the full circle, back to its roots, up its own arse, then……

No man it's gone worse, it's all mumbling and autotune now being pushed. The real lyricists who don't rap to just offend are getting pushed to the bottom as the record labels not promoting them, it's hard to explain really if you not into rap I guess.

Never mind - Sorry but I just had to spit that out sometime, because I've never been able to shake off the thought I had then that the whole world was going down the gurgler when that kind of stuff was allowed air time.
