I Don't Know

peppino

I don’t know

If my life had deep meaning or was a show

Have I made a contribution, have I simply spun my wheels?

Did I struggle for a reason, did I grow?

Did I seek a destination, did I just row?

I do not know

In our life we seek the certain and we want to know the why

We always seek a reason even when it is a lie

We cannot find the answers even when we strive and try

For the answers to life’s meaning are all hidden in the sky

I don’t know

If when time came to be counted I did lie low

Did I dare to chase a dream, did I stand by my beliefs?

When they came to call my name, did I not show?

When my neighbor was in need, was I too slow?

I do not know

In our life we seek the certain and we want to know the why

We always seek a reason even when it is a lie

But we cannot find the answers even when we strive and try

For the answers to life’s meaning are all hidden in the sky

I don’t know

If there will be another season to plant and sow

Will I see new blooms in Spring, will I hear the robins sing?

All the roses in the garden, will I see glow?

Will I be a child again, will joy still flow?

I do not know

In our life we seek the certain and we want to know the why

We always seek a reason even when it is a lie

But we cannot find the answers even when we strive and try

For the answers to life’s meaning are all hidden in the sky

I don’t know

If there is sufficient time for love to grow

Will my heart learn a new song, will my soul learn a new dance?

Will my gratitude display before I go?

Will I find a place in Heaven or deep below?

I do not know.

In our life we seek the certain and we want to know the why

We always seek a reason even when it is a lie

But we cannot find the answers even when we strive and try

For the answers to life’s meaning are all hidden in the sky
