Seeking God

peppino

I sought your radiant face in sacred places

Where scripted prayers and ancient chants

Kept filling stifled air with emptiness

Pews filled with people in a trance

Blind eyes of the self-appeased

Stared at lifeless paintings on the walls

On deaf ears fell the loud recount

Of unspoken words from your lips

I searched for your face in relations

Where lonely souls seek solace in embrace

Letting aching hearts select the track

Not knowing that the road leads to no place

I sought your face among the mindless crowd

Marching to execute our mind and soul

Drowning pain in deafening dissonance

Indifferent to journey and to stance

I sought your face in comforts of my home

Among books that litter empty space

Reflecting on what really means to be

Believing search for meaning is the key

In the chilling darkness of the night

I drank from the cup of deep despair

Oblivion joined the future to the past

All volition stripped was from my mind

I closed my eyes

Maybe I was still yearning for your Grace

I saw the blood that kept on

Streaming down your tortured face
