Democracy

ForeverJesus7

Very few countries have it.

It is a very rare thing.

Still, when it comes down to it,

what does democracy mean?

In a nutshell,

it means freedom;

a freedom to choose.

To have a choice,

and a voice,

within a fair set of rules.

Republican or Democrat,

Pro guns or gun control,

with democracy,

you have the chance,

to take it to the polls.

You may not like the system.

It may sometimes seem tainted.

Still there is no system better,

and in a democracy,

you even have the right to change it.

We (America),

fight to preserve democracy.

We die for it,

because there is no better form.

When others want us,

to settle for something different,

we refuse to conform.

That is why I love my country,

from sea to everlasting shining sea.

There is no better government,

or way of life,

than democracy.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Clearly there is more to democracy than what I just wrote. Nevertheless, democracy is what makes this country great and such a wonderful place to live in. I wrote this because tomorrow is voting day. - strengthen our democracy and our nation and go vote. It is our right and our duty to our country. - Persistence is key

God help you there in USA if you get Trump again.
Can't trust anyone with a dodgy barnet like that (strange hairstyle, I mean)!
But seriously, he could be dangerous.

I vote for orchi - a round of applause....

A poet and I were going to set up The Cabbage Party! 'Vote for cabbages' we say; see if they can help us out'. Or turnips, or carrots, or....... Doh!

Any would be preferable to trump - bury the bugger in vegies...

I voted for Mr. Trump, my friend. I think he did an awsome job as president, but that is not the point of this piece.
It is about the greatness of having a democracy, not about who gets into office.
            Persistence is key
