My father never was around a lot
He just took over the tv, smoked his weed and cigarettes
Until all his anger took ahold of him
Then he'd hit and yell
My mother cried a lot
She took the venom, but she never fought
'Til she said, "You're leaving, and I'm taking the kids"
And so she did
I say they're just the ones who forced life upon me...
Lord, I truly am my parents' child
Scattered across my family lines
I'm so good at telling lies
That came from my father's side
Told a few to get away
God, I have my dad's eyes
But my mom's when I cry
I can't run and I can't hide
From my family lines
It's hard to say or even write...
How the holidays and birthdays will always hurt
As I watch the families with their pets and kids
I've gotta wonder what I did to deserve this!
How could you hurt a your own child?!
I can't forget, I can't forgive you
Because now I'm scared that everyone I care about and love will leave me
Scattered across my family lines
I'm so good at telling lies
That came from my father's side
Told a few to get away
God, I have my dad's eyes
But my mom's when I cry
I can't run and I can't hide
From my family lines
Oh, all that I did to try to undo this
All of my pain and all your bullshit
I'm a kid but I'm not clueless!
Someone who "loves" you, "cares" for you, is your family wouldn't do this!
All of my past, I've tried to ignore it, I've tried to change it
Could I even change it?
We might share a few simple features and share a last name, but—
We are not the same!
Scattered across my family lines
I'm so good at telling lies
That came from my father's side
Told a few to get away
God, I have my dad's eyes
But my mom's when I cry
I can't run and I can't hide
From my family lines
