Don’t make me feel untalented
All I ever wanted was a compliment
A love language that left me feeling divested
Tell me I’m beautiful
Don’t hold back
Give me what I want
What I desperately need
And shower me with
“your pretty’s”
Am I smart enough to earn your acknowledgement of my intellect?
Or will I have to hear it from someone else
Begging to be the center of your mess
And yet going further and further from my center
My center, my thoughts, my words
That’s what matters
Forgive me for holding you to a higher pedestal
Than you could ever belong
My joy, my happiness, my confidence
Belongs to me and I will be
What you chose not to see
All I ever wanted was a compliment
A love language that left me feeling divested
Tell me I’m beautiful
Don’t hold back
Give me what I want
What I desperately need
And shower me with
“your pretty’s”
Am I smart enough to earn your acknowledgement of my intellect?
Or will I have to hear it from someone else
Begging to be the center of your mess
And yet going further and further from my center
My center, my thoughts, my words
That’s what matters
Forgive me for holding you to a higher pedestal
Than you could ever belong
My joy, my happiness, my confidence
Belongs to me and I will be
What you chose not to see

I enjoyed this. I’ve been working on a piece similar to this but I am currently stuck. I read something recently that said “validation is for parking.”
