MEMORIES OF MY FATHER

janeysilver

Windsor knot ties

draped over the mirror

ready to wear

Your smell of tobacco

warm and reassuring

Holding my hand

as we walked to Sunday Mass

showing me

buds on the bushes in spring

Making rhymes to the

sound of the train engine

taking us to London

Home later tired and

ready for bed

after Sunday tea of

celery, cheese, bread and

Sing Something Simple

on the radio

So fleeting and precious

was our time together

For you were taken too soon
