blankets of cottage leaves

Crystal Hope

carved twigs dancing in the wind
breaking branches onto dry ground.
crunched leaves carry cranberry red,
golden pumpkin, and nutmeg brown.

wooden planks dusty with the sweep
of a green rake and a yellow straw broom.
rubber red boots scrubbed the woven mat
as dried chestnut stems drag into the living room.

burgundy shutters shift along raindrop windows
as ginger rooftops blister the chimney with smoke.
taupe tree trunks hug the basil grasses
painted with pine cones and scarlet oak.

ivory cotton sunlight blanketed the cottage
with teapot picnic tables and gala apple cobblers.
crisp air squeaks at the crimson curtains
basking the house with roasting turkey gobblers.

A fine write Crystal. Yes, a colourful season. 'Autumn' for us in the UK! The only 'Fall' for me was when I fell over a pile of wet leaves. (I made that bit up. lol). Your Thanksgiving soon too?
