Christ Is Preeminent in Creation - Series (1)

Tune: Leibster Jesu

('Dearest Jesu, we are here')

Colossians 1 v.15-18

*********

Christ, who is the image He

Of the invisible God, see

First in rank o'er each creature

Howe'er they appear or feature

For by Him all things created

Were, it all as He has stated

All things in heaven, on earth

He assigned them, gave them their worth

Visible, invisible

He the Creator made them all

Whether they dominions, powers

Rulers, He reigns o'er them all hours

All things were by Him sure made

His created works here displayed

And by Him all things consist

He sees all, not one thing has missed

And He the head of the body

The church, which His people so be

He is the beginning, He

The firstborn of the dead is, see

That in all things it may be

He may have pre-eminency

Christ the Lord now ever living

The Creator of everything

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem in 7.7.7.8.8.8. format. A possible series on Colossians, though I have only written one other poem in this series so far. I've yet to write more - none stored up as 'already written'. 'Firstborn' meaning 'the heir whose position is unique'. I have adjusted this word in verse 1 to 'first in rank' (a margin reference in the Bible) but left it in at verse 4.

The Immanuel and the Incarnation are some of the most intimate and warm revelations between the other worldly and humankind. So good, this!

How important the Firstborn of all Creation we cannot begin to imagine - such good points raised dear Orchi.
