I Won´t Fight Back

LauraBerry

When people are up in my face
shaking fists that i´m a disgrace
…I won´t fight back

When arrogance stamps my worth
and pomposity restricts my girth
…I won´t fight back

When words of untruth are spread about me
and my true character is not their reality
…I won´t fight back

When people prod and poke and demand reactions
and block my movement with manipulative actions
…I won´t fight back

When i am accused of things I have not done
and my worth is wrongly judged and undone
…I won´t fight back

I will surrender instead, and let the pain fall through
that powerlessness will turn to power true
…Because I won´t fight back

And when forgiveness takes its place
and all the discomfort has lost its trace
…I will love back

  • Comment from author about the poem: When we fight evil with evil we perpetuate the unlove in our lives. But its not easy to stop fighting back. We all do it so many times a day, i wrote this poem to help me embrace surrender instead.

    we must Fight
for what we treasure and love
    yet
there is no rule stating, How
    we choose to fight
    ergo
in the face of ignorance and unhinged malice
    waiting
and allowing time to offer us a path, past
    conflict
is a powerful weapon of defiance!
'an eye for an eye only insures
    blind choices and empty futures'
    (thanks for sharing, dear Poet
    I read and learn)
