Clambering down the stairs of B block
As if I wasn't watching, waiting for the lock
On those searing memories to defrost fully,
The way you wait 5 minutes before indulging in the creamy
Notes of coconut from your favourite dairy-free ice cream.
A greeting is exchanged.
You ask how my academic year is going.
I spit out the sour amnesiac lies, feigned seeds of hatred
In hopes I could learn to be sweet once more, but nothing
Leaves my mouth other than a
"Good, what about you?"

- Comment from author about the poem: This poem will be the first in an (unnumbered) collection about a harsh journey of reconnecting in a frequently disconnected world. These poems draw on from my own (current) experience.
