You say we've been friends for so long,
But do you know the song I blare at 4 o'clock?
Do you appreciate all the quirky things I do?
Do you realize my craze about things that are blue?
You say we've been friends for so long,
But do you know my hobbies and interests?
Do you know my deepest, darkest fears?
Or the things that I cherish and hold dear?
You say we've been friends for so long,
But how do you not know me at all?
How do you not notice my jumpiness?
Or not observe my grumpiness when I'm upset?
You say I'm acting weird and ask if I'm alright.
I just stare on in disbelief.
How have you not met those parts of me?
Looks like you've only seen half of the puzzle.
You say we've been friends for so long,
And that we'll stay like that forever.
But how do I tell you, there've been a million who've told me that.
How do I tell you that friends offered me forever but had to leave?
You say we've been friends for so long,
But you make me wonder why I'm feeling alone.
I can't tell you I don't feel like a priority.
Because I know that's not something you owe me.
You say we've been friends for so long,
I know all about you, your life and your adventures,
I've heard them all, but when it comes to me,
Why don't you know my story?
So, maybe, friends for so long don't mean best friends.
Maybe we just needed some company,
And found each other and you chose me.
So when we part, I hope I'm one of your best memories.
