It’s late Fall
The air is fresh and mosquito-free
A rose bush displays a single bloom
Fruit hangs from a leafless medlar tree
Woodpeckers hammer loudly on dead wood
Sparrows hop on bending stems of grass
Shaking to the ground their daily meal
Skunks scratch the soil in search of grubs
Squirrels stash acorns in the ground
Geese fly in formation in the sky
Honking from above as they pass by
Robins are perched on an apple tree
I watch silently and listen as they sing
I hope to see them all again in Spring
