Autumn has come and gone, but my status has not changed.

Dr.Suryaraju Mattimalla

“I asked my black queer
And I inquired of my untouchable queer
If their status changed in society,
My queer friend replied to me
Spring has arrived and gone.
Summer has arrived and gone.
Autumn has arrived and gone.
Winter has arrived and gone.
But their status has not changed.
They asked about my status if I changed
I replied to them I do have the same status as they do.
No season has altered my situation.
No one changed my status.
No amount of spirituality changed my status.
No religion changed my status.
No icon changed my status.
No champion of civil rights changed my status.
I replied to them
All civil rights champions are
Masculinities and feminities that are hegemonic
But I didn't respond to them.
My status is always sub-human status
No matter what season comes and goes”
“India had never seen me as a fully human being because of my untouchable caste background, my black skin color, and my gay background." Dr. Suryaraju Mattimalla (he/they), black, untouchable caste, labour, founder of Equality Religion.
