Early Encouragings

Tune: Regent Square

('Lord of beauty, thine the splendour')

Psalm 108

*********

O God, my heart is fixed, steadfast

I will sing and praise, now past

Is the night, my tongue I employ

Waking early, songs of joy

To give to you, with instruments

You give all wisdom, good sense

I will praise you, O Lord, among

The people, let songs be sung

To you among the nations, for

Your mercy is great, 'tis sure

It reaches above the skies, roused

And your truth reaches to clouds

Be exalted, O God, above

The heavens, reign in your love

Your glory be above all here

Of the earth, I worship, fear

And that I from enemy be

Saved, come help me graciously

God has spoken in holiness

His the nations, we confess

Shechem, Succoth, Gilead too

Manasseh and Ephraim true

Judah, Moab, Edom, and all

Philistia, all people

Who will bring me to strong city?

Who then will my helper be?

Will not you, O God, though off cast

It seems you have us o'er passed

Will you not, O God, with us go

Forth with our hosts? you we know

Give us help from trouble, for vain

Is man's help, we shall not gain

But through God we shall valiant

Do, He be our help present

For He shall our enemies tread

Down, they shall from us be fled

Oh no, it's worse! I'm gonna start singing early now, and probably go on all day. heehee.

The language is spot on and elegant. I wish I could have the lingo down like that. Utterly edifying orchi!

Thanks CB. You knowing them places in verse 4 - Succoth, etc? All towns in or around Israel, I think.

Been to some of 'em, not all yet. Maybe on another journey. You know the 'rona got in the way of all that.

Your first stanza strikes me deeply. Upon rising early, my morning walk is a contemplation that gives so much meaning to my day and my life . All stems from that universal wisdom and love as you have so beautifully written dear Orchi! Thank You!

Thanks Bella. Sorry it's agony to everyone else when I start singing - and now I've started early! - but it can't be helped! lol.

I would be more encouraging but the thought of you crooning so late in the evening is most discouraging 🙂
