I Talk to the Stars

A Boy With Roses

But the stars don't hear me drowning in the nihilism and loneliness of the night, the wounded silence at 4 am when the universe is talking to me, the blue-grey nocturnal strife, hope but despair.

'This is my letter to the World
That never wrote to Me --'

Strange enough I bought the complete poems back in 2016 and used to read a lot of her work whilst commuting on trains or at the park. Put a bookmark halfway through it and never finished it. She has a lot of good adages and I admire a lot about her, but the majority of it doesn't speak to me or interest me. Maybe it's basic or predictable rhymes. I don't tend to write shorter poems myself, but this one is actually the title of a painting I recently finished, so I'm content with it being succinct. Thanks for reading.

Yes, I too tend to approach Emily at specific moments of life
not an everyday read for sure, but like you say she does have good adages
and I like her subtle digs at a world, she finds so fascinating
I just thought your poetry's nuances resonated with Emily's defiant lines
        on this occasion.
'Indulgently relatable imagery in defiant self-expression, rich in brevity and originality'
is how I would describe the majority of your poetry, a privilege to read
thanks for sharing and good luck with all your endeavours, dear Poet
