An Athlete Was Murdered, A Politician Disappeared

Our hearts were on our sleeves
Our dreams were in our hands
While Mother worked two jobs
We all voted for the man
I walked around the bases
While the umpires left in doubt
We made our way into the papers
Because we finally got them out
And our worst fears were realized
That day we stood and cheered
An athlete was murdered
A politician disappeared

The highway is for everyone
Until you see the writing on the wall
And don't be surprised at nothing
When you take that long walk down the hall
We played hard, and tried our best
But we lost by just a run
The taste of that defeat was bad enough
But the worst was yet to come
And our worst fears were realized
That day we stood and cheered
An athlete was murdered
A politician disappeared

If you find you have to gamble
You had better keep a poker face
And do your best to play the game
Before someone puts you in your place
Our little game was finally over
Another loss was nothing new
The fans were mostly unforgiving
As they bid the best of us adieu
And our worst fears were realized
That day we stood and cheered
An athlete was murdered
A politician disappeared

    an intriguing narrative
(even devoid of context or details)
    well written, thanks for sharing
