Power Trip

Brandon De Nobrega

On the day I was born,

The rain was pourin’

Plugs were sparkin’

Thunder struck,

Power outage,

The Devil was cryin’

Because a-

Real God was born since Jesus was lyin’

In the,

 Tomb of Nazareth,

Defying the dying…. ones,

Overcame death, made him into a pet, and now he's just a pun referring to all the lyin’ ones.

I’m devilious, godly with my tongue, but sick with my lines,

Power,

Surging through my bones now and to the end of all time;

I’m a-

Poet but also a rapper if you’re reading these lines,

With a,

flow, but that’s if you’re not old and blind.

Its perception…..

That’s what life is all about

I can’t force a mortal to be convinced by the words coming out a God’s mouth,

They won’t understand it,

No matter how hard you try…

It’s funny because I know a few who would rather die;

Than understand,

The preachings of my truth,

The power of the sound of the whistle,

that gets blown,

by the wind,

through my teeth,

when I stand,

with a plan,

 in my head,

 to be God,

 above the fools,

in the world,

 that just wishes me dead.

Looking down at all you birds,

Who spouts insults, thinking there’s power, behind your words.

Call me farcical,

while I’m levels,

above your lords,

Call me deranged, I’m not, I’ve just never been heard…….

By a true listener,

A true disciple,

A true Hu, A true man,

A true prophet,

Helping me to reset this damn cycle,

Of despair,

That twirls around mankind, stifling from the blood of the bullets shot out those damn rifles.

Like come on! We’re all one species, plus,

Will we kill ourselves before Hades comes to see us,

Dead,

Face down, flat on the floor,

Nowhere to be found,

Mankind is living no more;

Because we are all ants instead we’re walking on two legs,

Following trends and doing what we see,

No originality, just “us,” and no “me.”

We need a leader,

An evangelist,

One to turn the tides,

My name stands for Chief so buckle up for the ride……

My eyes are red,

My Soul is dead,

Not my heart,

 Not my body,

 Not my mind,

 My feet below,

 Can’t walk,

Sand stuck,

Traversing time,

Fishes are dead,

Why’s that?

Enemies plea……

Cause a celestial being is splitting the red sea.

I’m a Poem God, my lines are proof enough,

My power can’t be contained by the oppressors of this world,

Because the world will soon belong to me,

The oppressors will bow,

Kings will fall,

Cities will burn,

Rules overturned,

Systems disappear,

That’s when you know, a true God is here.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Inspired by J. Cole. (It is recommended to read this poem like you’re reading a rap with a flow for the full experience). This poem brings to life the preponderant feeling of power that the author sometimes has. The author aims to acquire this feeling again, but in a more permanent way; meaning, once he attains this spark in willpower again, he will never let it go!
