Love's a Fool's Game

Dragos Munteanu

If life is like a deck of cards
and each of us is dealt a hand
I picture you, my queen of hearts
to love and cherish 'till the end.

Should the session prove elusive
obstructed by the spiteful fates
I should hope to strike, conclusive
by drawing you, oh, queen of spades!

Humankind resembles islands
forever distant, stranded each
happenstance - the queen of diamonds
I hold her close, within arm's reach.

Love can turn you something fearless
a lioness, protecting cubs
hope my words will sooth the peerless
lifting thy veil, sweet queen of clubs!

Now, that all have been collected
I'd like to raise another thing
that the sender be selected
not as the fool, but as your king.
