On the emerald plain; under setting sun;
Moving fast, two riders, on the run.
The Maiden fair and her chestnut mare.
Followed by the roan, with navy hair.
The Maiden, with her girlish laughter;
Which taunted them to race on after.
Her mare; dark and sleek, long and lean.
While the poor destrier was routed clean
To the top of the rise, she met him there;
Smiling, primly waiting; this Maiden fair.
The Rider in this race, was soundly beaten;
Yet a small chaste kiss, the loss did sweeten.
With smile mischievous, she wheeled around;
The chestnut mare, bare touched the ground.
As they joyfully thundered on; a riotous pair.
The Maiden Fair and her Chestnut Mare.
