I Am Darkness

Mara "Marzipan"

I am darkness, I am night, I am where many are lost without hope in sight.

I creep and seep, filling the cracks in you, with me.

Encroaching slowly, in little ways, pushing out the memory of better days.

Replacing every happy moment with misery and grimmer thoughts,

with procrastination, lack of motivation, and no will at all.

I change you, mold you, cast you in my die,

warp you, twist you, with doubts, anxiety, and lies.

I don't need to worry about haste. No, no.

You won't have the strength to fight, once you realize you are mine,

because I work slowly, as the thing I have more than you,

is time...

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is about depression, something that I and many others battle daily. I wanted to write it from the other perspective, as if it was a person.
