You Can't Nap In Cairo

Cressida Cane

You really can't nap in Cairo.

The noises, swirling around like heavy particles in the ever hazy air, will crawl into your ears and stay there.

Dogs, constantly. Children, endlessly. Traffic, ceaseless.

You just can't nap in Cairo.

Your neighbour will knock. Your Bawab will call. Your delivery driver will be lost, streaming unfaltering demands in a language you don't understand: and you will need to answer all of these.

You truly cannot nap in Cairo.

Construction and cats and calls-to-prayer: at five, and nine and twelve and three and five; rinse, repeat.

You really, truly, will not nap, in Cairo.

A rich painting of a city I know nothing about.. Almost, however felt line I'd been there
Don't move along too quickly... I'd like more, if you don't mind...

      Thanks!

Feels like the only way I can express what Cairo is is through poetry. Appreciate you reading it and commenting. 🙂
