Tune: Calypso Carol

('See Him lying on a bed of straw')

Luke 1 v.26-33

**********

Sent from God the angel Gabriel

To Nazareth, good tidings to tell

To a virgin betrothed to man there

Angel did them the message share

Chorus

Virgin's name was Mary, the angel

Said to her, 'Rejoice, to you, Hail!'

The Lord is with you, and blessed you be

High favoured among women, see

The man's name was Joseph, he did care

For his betrothed one tender and fair

When Mary saw angel, she troubled

Wondered unto what she was called - Chorus

The angel said to her, Mary, Fear

Not, for I do bring you tidings dear

For you have with God found sure favour

Here now this promise true savour - Chorus

And, behold, you shall conceive in your

Womb, and bring forth a son, holy, pure

And you shall call His name JESUS, for

He shall be Saviour evermore - Corus

He shall be great, called Son of Most High

Yet He shall come unto humans nigh

The Lord God shall give to Him the throne

Of David, He shall true it own - Chorus

And He shall reign o'er House of Israel

For ever and ever, ruling well

Of His kingdom there shall be no end

All nations shall Him homage tend - Chorus

  • Comment from author about the poem: A hymn-poem, with Verses in 9.9.9.8. and Chorus in 9.8.9.8. format. I'm not keen on drums, so I didn't choose a clip with them in it. They can 'murder' a song sometimes, a horrid expression I heard!

Thanks Bella. I'm not often too 'modern'. I say 'Oohh a new hymn - written about 1970, that is!' lol.
