It was only amongst the brilliant
That the stars were given names
The poor crust on the earths surface
Devoted all its time to the sky
The life on this crust however
Devoted only glances
Heavy souls stayed grounded
Face down
Necks broken
The few, with their light inner fog
Had the choice of direction
A sight forward
Or a sight elsewhere
But mostly forward
Crippled by their souls weight
The neckless turn to gravel
The necked turn to ghosts
Forever light
Forever
With the stars named only after life
Had its chance

- Comment from author about the poem: I’ve noticed, more recently in life, that I rarely look up anymore. And I fear I will do so less and less as time paces past.
