One Lump Or Two
There was nothing artificial about it then
Just a lump or two gently dropped in
Nothing malicious about it’s meaning
No judgement about which way you were leaning
Just a simple question to inquire
One lump or two? What’s your desire
It wasn’t pink or yellow or blue
Prepackaged substances without a clue
Further dividing people, driving a wedge
Setting the pink people and blue on edge
Kindness like sweetener was measured and true
The only question was, One Lump or Two

This reminds me of when special needs poeple may be overlooked. People only speak to the care and ask 'Does he/she take sugar?' (or one sugar lump or two).
I yearn for those days
where an innocent, 'are you alright, mate'
wasn't an offence, to be thrown back in our face...
(in our stride for progress
so many of the minutia details
that act as the cog to society's wheels
have now been so utterly, worn out
that I dare to think how future generations
will make it through, the next ww
or global pandemic...
your poems echoes
one of my favourite lines of poetry
written by Plath
'tea leaves thwart those who court catastrophe'
she wrote of tea leaf reading
but I like to think, she also meant
of those hot beverages
we sip, while watching-on
as the chaos of life huffs and puffs
all around us
and maybe with a sweetener or two
in our cup, it makes it that much easier
to make it to that next Aurora
of hope, in our lives...
just maybe)
An absolutely Brilliant write!
so glad I didn't miss out on this
thanks for sharing, dear cherished Poet
