Broken Dreams

Mara "Marzipan"

Is there a way to heal the past that continues to mar?
A way to remove these hidden scars?
For every now and then,
these old wounds are ripped open once again.

In agony of the pain that still remains deep within my heart,
crying and pleading to never fall in love and just avoid that part,
Still begging for a reason why,
my heart turns to avoid the truth I wish to deny,

My world was shattered,
even my dreams repeat the subject manner,
Colors of black, reds, grays and whites fade across my mental image,
As what once gave me relief turns to feelings that still make me grimace,

How do you let go so that you can heal?
How can you forget how you will always feel?

A sorrow so deep within my soul may fade but still last,
I must move on regardless and make these broken dreams just part of the past.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I wrote this in 2013 at a time of reflection. I realized that I had been carrying a lot of heartache with me. I finally came to the realization that I could still love someone, not be with them, and move on with my life and still find happiness.
