Grateful

L. B. Mek

World gathers in preparation for festive holidays

Winter’s tears, birthing humanity’s crimson brooklets

YouTube view counts rise

Replaying life’s horrific everyday realities

Nuclear threats as breakfast accompaniment

Death tolls and atrocities

Delivered as bitesize memes, aside

Call of Duty, highlights

Inflation now a quarterly event, where

Only status quo tax brackets can be trusted to remain

Untampered

So many excuses for our collective societal degradation

Policing, villainised by those wishing for a socialist

Revolution

Only for crime rates to rocket and media

Too invested in radical politics, to make a connection

Now, government departments exist to clean

Human faeces from pavements

While our dog parks are kept spotless, testimony

To modernity’s priorities

and on, humanity’s cyclicality of woe, rolls on…

Yet all any of us, need

Is for just one thing, to be

Reason enough

To let us cope

With all we have to deal with

In our lives

Anything, any one thing

That’s all any of us need, just that one thing

To be, reason enough!

A pause, exists

Separated

From my rushed ambitions

and

those stagnated moments

of rest

Within this brief opportunity for clarity

at times, I glean enough wisdom to realise

all those small mercies I’ve been afforded

Then I take out that pen, in my mind

and begin to ink these words of gratitude

as oft, I’m too lost in my thoughts

lamenting my circumstances

rarely do I note, how truly lucky I am

Indeed, others are more fortunate than I

yet still, far more – I fear

will swap places with me in a heartbeat

This for me is reason enough

to scrape together one more smile

and luxuriate in one more breath

devoid of shuddering lungs

Grateful am I

for the small mercies

in my life

    Superb write LBM.
So true, as wonderful as world wide connections can be. It only magnifies the dark side of humanity. By the end of the year we need as many uplifting festivities as possible.

Dearest friend, you have captured the very essence of the world in which we exist today. I say exist, because we seem to have lost the way in which to live. To live is to find a reason for it, and in your gratitude you have done just that. It is always a privilege to read your words and benefit from your insight. You give me much to think about, and for that I thank you. Peace and love to you in this season.

Dear friend you have shifted the focus to where in needs to be. We all should be grateful for the little things that we take for granted. A very nice write contrasting the bad with the good, on which you end. Not just at this time of year but all year long our focus could be on the wonderful things we have not coveting what others have, while neglecting their problems. Loved it.
