I sit here in his room
At his warm bedside,
Sweet moment in time
Where our souls collide
Who would ever suspect
This man, eighty-seven,
Would become my dear friend
To share in life’s questions?
I’d like to spread out
Maps of us on the table
Timelines and histories,
A lovely portrayal
Of all our differences
Contrasted by how
We resemble each other
Both human, here Now
To walk with those older—
An honor, a gift
Lives combined at a time
When we both still exist
So as we connect
It’s sacred, perhaps
In this shared space and time
Where our lives overlap
