ME BEFORE YOU

Sunset Desires

I remember starring at the sun,
Just because I loved the glow
I remember falling in love with the scents of the grass
And the rhythm of the river stream
These are what I first fell in love with

I remember re reading old books just to help me fall asleep
Mostly because I didn’t have new books
And just because I loved reading stories I’ve read before
I mean, it’s easier to know how a dramatic romantic novel ends than reading a whole new one
But that’s beside the point
The point is : I remember so much

I remember playing fetch with my own feelings
I’d toss them around because eventually I got to catch them
I remember loving being in my bare skin so much
The warmth of my own flesh
The music of my own chest
The smell of my own skin

I remember writing journals to end my day
Or paint my own thoughts
So bright they made me smile
I remember things I shouldn’t

Then you walked in my life
And every sunset became symbolic, treasured,
Not because of the ombre glaze, ni
But because it meant a day ending with me being yours
‘’yours’’ a title that makes me feel so much love

I can’t even sit still on the grass without thinking of your scent
Or listen to the stream without hearing your voice from a far

I used to fall asleep to books and now I fall asleep to texts
Except, unlike the books I’ve read, I don’t know how this story ends
But I know how I want it to end
Because even books are just fictional characters that fit together in a perfect plot

It used to be throw and catch with my feelings
Until you came along and every time I throw
You’re there to catch
My good emotions, bad ones and even sad ones too.
My skin isn’t complete without yours on it
It doesn’t even feel warm any more, absurd
It’s like I need you to hold me together
I need you to be me
And your heart beat is my new harmonic rhythm
Every beat calm and composed
It’s like you actually take time to breath

You’re my new day to day journal
And somewhere between the talks and laughs
You became my favourite journal
And days aren’t complete without talking to you

It’s crazy how you walked in my life and somehow made everything in between all about you
And it’s even crazier how my happiest memories have your face printed on them
And my best days with you all over them
Like that missing last piece of the puzzle that finds its way to you.
So really, I can't talk of a me before you, how can I if with you is where I feel whole,
Complete.
