  • Comment from author about the poem: A good friend of mine was born on July 27 and so was one of my sisters; only realised that tragedy struck on that same day in the 1890s, during my great grandfather's days.

This write holds a feel of mystery and a sense of foreboding. The ending lines give me the feel that beauty gilds with gold a darker underlying issue. Very nicely done it reads smooth and is haunting

Thanks Soren. It does give a sense of foreboding and haunting.

      Van Gogh? A troubled soul.
Fido says to me: 'No 'ear ear' - 'hear, hear' - jokes, please!'

      • arqios

Yes Fido, too bad the ear was lopped off.

Such beautiful lines in honor of a beautiful and tortured soul. I love the last stanza which seems to epitomize what van Gogh loved to paint most. So lovingly written dear friend.

The sight and smell of wheat 🌾 and flax in a spray of sunlight is quite bewildering in its radiance and Vincent captured that so well.

            beautifully worded as always
