As the boat crashed ashore,
I could hear the screams of the dead.
The color of sand was blood-red,
And this was truly a living Hell.
The medics the troops needed were dead,
So, it was my duty to help the injured.
It was then I discovered my power.
I could heal any wound or injury,
Just by touching the injured spot.
I ran as hard as anyone could,
Only stopping to use my gift.
I reached the jagged cliff,
And climbed as fast as I could.
Terror has found me,
Because I knew Nazis were waiting, killing.
I was shot in the arms and legs,
And I fell until an officer caught me.
To the officer, I beg,
Not to take me away from other soldiers.
While in care,
I met a beautiful girl.
She had my power,
And on the battlefield, she did not cower.
She nursed me back to health,
And we went back to Hell.
We fought side by side,
And for other troops, be a guide.
But she was shot,
While I was away.
I did not get back in time,
And I was in heartbreak.
I only knew her for a few hours,
But it felt like I knew her longer.
Even though I felt pain,
I kept fighting for my men and those who died.
I healed the injured,
And killed the enemy.
We captured Normandy,
And made our way back.
But on trail,
I was shot in the heart.
I could feel it,
And I touched it.
But it would not heal.
How mocking,
I can save others, but I cannot save myself.
The world went cold,
Nothing but black.
I fall on my back,
Dead.
I woke up in a bed,
And everything was white.
I saw my beloved,
And she said, “We’re in heaven.”
Then I heard a booming voice,
As if I had a choice.
He said I had done well,
Using my gift for good.
He said I could go back,
But I’d be paralyzed.
I chose to stay,
For I had everything in heaven.
