Life's Greatest Toy

Simply Marie

A precious thing we treat so well for it to last beyond the norm

He wouldn't dream to speak to me this way this really can't be him right now

Is this someone just pretending to be him

the greatest love I've ever known

But then I heard a voice inside attempt discernment how would I even know

The way he speaks when angst would lead us to unplanned disagreement

We've never had to face a trace of anything like this before

And here we are in our first fight so far how could this even be an option for us

I've never known this side of him and now here we are both showing cards

Impassed by wants unspoken until now without further hesitation

While the chord that holds this thing is threatening unravelment to a string

How can we stop before it breaks and its too late to see just what we've done

The time has come to prove again just what has value here

We can both hold on to what we found this time or choose to walk away

As for me I cannot see where leaving will ever lead us to a better place

Here's where I prove what is still unmoved the love I have for him

The only thing that matters more than the angst inside my head

To find a way to back away from habits played which do not serve us now

To trust him now pride swallowed hard somehow until we find our way again

If that's what it takes that's just what I'll do to show how much I value this

The thing I know is the way he's shown that he feels the same way as I do

Whatever it takes well find a way so that we both can win this time

And now here we are way beyond somehow those habits left behind

A growing thing we know can bring us both down to our knees

How we came this far well never know how we got to such a place

And it's OK now well keep finding ways somehow to move beyond what doesn't seem to work

I'm just so grateful how we're able to play with now the greatest toy life ever made
