There they are planted
Alone but together
Aware of my gaze
For decades I stare
I'm no longer convinced it's a phase
Trees with fruit so ripe
Beyond that gate so high
A height I can not climb
The nectar must be so sweet
I wish the trees were mine
They mock me from afar
Frustration makes me sick
Oh I love them so
But their fruit I will never pick
