midnight rain

mary.soft

Our fire keeps us warm

But I can`t stop myself from thinking

How blue I`m going to feel

When you`ll leave, because

Why would you ever stay with the mess that I am?

There`s some part of me that hope

For it all to burn out as fast as the candles last night

And I would not have a chance to blow it out.

I`m seating here in the fright

by the window in the night

Aimlessly pointing at the stars

Tirelessly expecting midnight rain to flood

Will you stay then?

When all the fire will be put out?

Will you stay after that?

Soaked in the cold with me?

With each step we make closer to each other

With each part of me you touch

With each “there`s no going back the same” sign

I want to stop and freeze us at the moment we are now

and never think of what will be the end of us

Will you become the one

Who breaks my heart?

But you`re not the type who will keep you up all night

Not the type to kiss and lie

Not the "don`t know how to make you feel loved" type

Yeah, probably I`m the "there`s something wrong with me” type

So, now we can agree I`ll be the one

Who`ll break your heart.

I`m seating here in the fright

by the window in the night

Aimlessly pointing at the stars

Tirelessly expecting midnight rain to flood

Will you stay then?

When all the fire will be put out?

Will you stay after that?

Soaked in the cold with me?

I feel the smoke filling up my lungs

Is that everything finally going down?

Shit, no way, that was our dinner in the oven

That I`ve burned down to the ashes - it was all my fault.

So I spiral back to what a mess I am

"is the doomsday on my hands?"

while you’re wiping my tears away and

calling that pizza place where we met.

I`m seating here by your side

by the window in the night

Eating pizza and counting the stars

Tirelessly expecting midnight rain to flood

I hear the raindrops on the tin roof and

you saying three words in the dark:

“Wanna dance outside?”

Interesting writing nice words with nice flow .. especially like the repeat of the lines

‘ by the window in the night
      Aimlessly pointing at the stars’

And really nice last line .

I love the build up to "wiping my tears away and calling that pizza place where we met". Someone seeing past the flaws we imagine we have. The last line is superb. Well done!
