Memory Problems (1-15-23 @11:46 pm )

Christ

I have memory problems.

I can’t ever seem to remember

so I’ve never been able to reminisce.

Yet unlike anything before,

There you are,

stuck in my head.

It could be months,

But I still remember

your first hello

to me.

My hippocampus has a dilemma,

The doctors don’t

have a diagnosis

for me yet.

I haven’t been able to

collect little mementos

of specific footsteps

walking towards me,

only yours.

Your words are

imprinted on my skin

like tattoos

as if I wrote them there,

But what you speak is all I see.

I have watched

and can

recall every way

and

turn

your smile turns into.

I haven’t had those feelings of nostalgia,

I haven’t had

the luxury of

recalling the touch

of someone’s skin,

Someone's eyes, or the way

they look at me,

Not even specific places I’ve been with them.

I haven’t,

And I probably won’t ever,

But you’re the exception.
