3 Miles to Nowhere

kespat@aol.com

The day starts with a cooling breeze

Dancing through your bedroom window

Pushing aside white lace curtains

Into the sparsely decorated room

A day where the sun

Will become a silvery white blinding disk

Witness to all that is happening below

No matter

You're in the zone

Sweat trickles beneath the elasticized waist of your blue patterned shorts

Secreting its way between the sensitive flesh of your buttocks

Long smooth thigh muscles stretch and bunch

Stretch and bunch

Soothing breaths expand your lungs, breeze through your nose to cool your salty upper lip

To which you touch a tongue, pressing close your eyes to better savor the exquisite brine

Ahead a mostly blank white wall

Inside darkened greenery grown tall

Patches of light illuminate deep brown soil blanketed with leaves , needles, animal leavings

Cool air noisily silent

A mixture of scents flow through ---familiar, almost identifiable, mostly longed for

Hot flaming heat

Needles of bright white light

Cleaving the gelatinous mass of the eye

Scouring the brain

Leaving it a soggy soppy mass

You hadn't expected to leave your imprint on that mostly blank white wall
