With playful paws and whiskers soft and warm,
A tabby cat before the chimney lays,
A woolen spool, her toy, her heart's alarm,
She tumbles and she rolls, and rolls and plays.
The fire's glow upon her fur doth dance,
A ginger hue, a warmth to chase away
The winter's chill and all its bitter chance,
A creature free from care, in joy to stay.
The spool, a symbol of her wild desire,
A symbol of the life that she would lead,
She chases it with all her heart's entire,
A feline queen, in all her grace and speed.
And as the night doth slowly steal the day,
The playful tabby sleeps, her spool at bay.
