Vengeance

sorenbarrett

Is it wrong to accuse someone falsely?

Is it wrong to sentence someone without defense?

Is it wrong to punish someone unfairly?

Does it even make any sense?

Yet many love vigilantes

Many thrive on revenge

Many think death penalties

Are the way to avenge

Yet everyone has a reason

As mistaken as it might be

Everyone does the best they can

Believing this, will set you free

Doesn't set me free to know that the dickheads listed in the first half seem to be multiplying. I think I spend too much time wondering why...
Thanks for raising the issue, Soren.

Thanks Dave for the read and comment. Before the Europeans settled the Americas the Iroquois had a very low crime rate and no prisons. Any crimes committed, the offenders family were responsible for and had to make reparations. There was no need for vengeance. Oh yea by the way we also stole the idea of representative democracy from them.

That's a rewarding clarification, Soren. Any chance you might pin that story (either verse or prose) up here as an original contribution?

        an important and complex subject
        deftly handled, dear Poet
(I'm most scared of reactionary vigilantes
        ignorantly/mistakenly
        sparking community violence n looting
        in neighbourhoods
        that exist, hinging on such
        thinly balanced tensions
        for, to such rowdy crowds
it is but a moment of release
        yet
        they demolish, livelihoods
and ways of lives, for so many
        needlessly)

Thank you L.B. for the review. Wisely said dear poet. Unfortunately institutions sometimes act as vigilantes as well, such as the media, or even government agencies. Thank you again L.B.
