Vigil

Shelby Hines

When I slide o'er the edge

And twilight severs boon

An agent of lightning's birth

Carries me over the moon

Too bold and relentless to overcome

I hear the call of anxiety

Serenity and calm rule utopian plane

Until it falls to reality

I take wing across spirit domain

Where nightmare meets firmament high

Where slumber finds me wide awake

And no need of antivenin have I

I cry out across the darkness

In a tongue of which I'm unaware

An echo of silence answers

To the envy of no one there
