Soldier of Love

Joakim Bergen

At rest, ye soldier of love;

Your armor’s rusted

You’ve lost thy blade,

Can’t you see you’re dying

Within the dragon’s den?

The beast belches,

Fire escapes its snout.

Violently does it screech

A blood-curdling sound.

Yet, you don’t yield;

Your courage unmatched,

Your compassion, your demise;

Can’t you see you’re dying

On the pyre of love;

Throw off your armor,

Let down your guard,

Let Cupid’s swift arrow

Pierce your lonely heart.
