Stranded

Joakim Bergen

This mind is defeated,

Ridden of every ambition,

Grasping desperately to survive.

Hanging on the tightrope

Looking upwards,

I see nothing.

I fear this senseless state.

I fear the endless waves.

That crash and thunder

On the rocks of my island.

And I am lonely, yes.

And I am lost, I admit.

Could I escape?

Could I sail away?
Yes, the boat is right here

Beside me.

But...

I am afraid.

I fear the vastness

Of the sea,

And the darkness

Of the nights;

Without you,

My light,

I am a glass-eyed fool

Rummaging thru memories,

To keep sane,

To keep warm,

For it is cold,

When you are alone.
