What Is the Sijo?

Kinsley Lee

The old traditional poem,

Which are the uniquely closed form-

Poem by the Korean language,

The old days prevailed in this land.

But today

It’s not written widely,

So we must revive as Han-Ryu.

  • Comment from author about the poem: The Sijo is the traditional poetry in Korea, by written in Korean language-named Hanguel, I tried to write this poem as the modernized Sijo-form, in English. Sijo to Korea, like the Haiku in Japan, they have the traditional poetry form in East Asia.

HI! Thank you for your comments. The form is the traditional Korean poetry. It's closed form, and I adapted the form from that poetry. Thank you so much.
