Stuck In A Moment

emengee28

Hey, there you are, crying again

About a situation you never asked for,

About something you can’t control.

You’re wondering if your efforts are all in vain.

But baby, who walks in and out of your door

Is something that you can never control.

Now, I’m brave when I need to be.

I fight for the people I love persistently.

But baby, you know it’s time to give up and go,

When they’ve given up on you, and dampen your glow.

Hey now, you’re only stuck in a moment.

I understand your nightly cries of lament.

The people that left you, they don’t deserve what you give.

Hey now, it’s only for a moment, not for life.

Within your soul now, there’s sorrow and strife.

But you’ll get through this, the moment you learn to forgive.

But forgiving is such a peculiar thing.

How can you forgive someone who never takes accountability?

Someone who can’t even say the words “I’m sorry”?

Honey, resentment and disdain is a painful sting.

It doesn’t solve anything, and shakes up your tranquility.

Their immaturity and heartlessness should not  make you worry.

Now, I can forgive when I’ve made peace.

I can let go when time fully heals me.

But baby, don’t wait for time to put your soul at ease.

Remember that it’s only you who can set your soul free.

Hey now, you’re only stuck in a moment.

This shitty situation is not your opponent,

But it’s something you need to learn from.

Hey now, it’s only for a moment, not for life.

Don’t let the negativity cut you like a knife.

Surrendering and letting go doesn’t mean you’re numb.

And baby, surrendering doesn’t mean you stop living.

It just means you’re choosing to accept what’s beyond you.

And letting go is the only option when you’ve done everything you could.

Baby, the world may be dark and unforgiving,

But you don’t have to be that way too.

Because amidst the darkness, there’s always something good.

And I’ve always held your hand through it all

And I won’t stop now, even if I have to fall.

I know this may seem foolish to you,

But I choose to stay and make sure you’ll get through.

Hey now, you’re only stuck in a moment.

Don’t let your life wither with disappointment.

You can cry, but your tears have nowhere to go.

Hey now, you say later might be better

But you’re just letting yourself be fettered.

C’mon and carry your weight and go with the flow.

Hey, there you are, crying again.

About a situation you have to let go of,

About a situation that broke you to pieces.

I understand that it’s difficult to bear this pain.

But honey, you need to give yourself love

And by that time, that’s when the suffering ceases.

You’re only stuck in a moment,

And I’ll hold your hand through it all.

  • Comment from author about the poem: I made this poem as a reflection of who I was and what I've been through all these years. If I had anything to say to my past self, it would be this whole poem. We're all just trying to get through the ebbs and flows of life. One moment changes to another. But no matter what the circumstances are, I'll always hold your hand. Let this poem be a proof and a solemn promise that there is someone out there who is rooting for you even at a time when you feel you've lost everything, and someone who'll love you wholeheartedly, even at a time when you can't love yourself. I hope this poem can be as somewhat of a friend to those who've read it.
