All Over A Plant

sam424

Citizens losing freedom, imprisoned for plants.
spreading lies to the people in political rants.

misinformation to brainwash the masses. Back then Reefer Madness, now it’s D.A.R.E classes.

our whole country in in a frenzy all over a plant.
police on the ground a war on drugs chant.

Tell me who’s winning this long wars on drugs?
Our federal government, the professional thugs!

Feeding on fear as they pillage the suburbs.
Searching high and low for the big bad herbs.

While alcohol kills and cigarettes, keep on burning.
We’ll provide the disease and the world keeps on turning.

And opiates are kosher, if they come in a pill.
With one stipulation, pay your doctor bill.

As pharmaceutical companies get richer and richer. The more they demonize the natural elixir.

I’m trying to comprehend, but the truth is I can’t.
As a rot here in prison all over a plant.

Missing my family and my child growing up.
The system doesn’t care, couldn’t give a fuck.

What should come next? They’ll start taxing the air.
Another civil liberty they’re willing to spare?

I’m trying to breathe slow, but I’m starting to pant.
I’m losing a chunk of my life all over a plant

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem was written in 2011. You probably could guess where I was when I wrote it. A little bit of the poem is outdated from today due to the fact that marijuana is now legal. But doesn’t change the fact of how I felt my first year in prison. I have learned a lot from my experience in federal prison. This poem was written in a result of a failed system
